Tampa Bay Rowdies Enters United Futsal Champions Cup Series

November 4, 2021 at 5:00:00 PM

The Rowdies are ready to try something new in the 2021-2022 Champions Cup Series Eastern Conference.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - The Tampa Bay Rowdies were founded in 1974 and played their first season in 1975 as the first professional sports franchise in the Tampa Bay area. The Rowdies are a professional sports organization who look at everything that compliments their ecosystem. They have been following the growth of futsal in the US, seeing the elements of opportunity of offering this fast-paced, high-intensity sport. Futsal will keep the youth in the area busy, give them team building opportunities, and allow them the chance to use their mind to benefit them. It is another tool to engage and provide more service to the local community.

Joining the Champions Cup Series gives The Rowdies a chance to pilot their futsal program. Two teams will wear the Rowdies’ Green and Gold colors at the tournament, a boys’ team of 2007/2008 players and a girls’ team competing in the 2004-2006 age division. The rosters for both teams will be made up of players selected by invitation only.

This new journey is about getting the youth in the community to learn and enjoy soccer. It will help them acquire basic skills and allow them to compete in an organized environment. They believe the players, parents, coaches, and the Rowdies organization itself will benefit from the game of futsal. It is about the players enjoying the time with teammates, and for the coaches, being professional in anything that they do. “We are excited to bring this program to the community and grow the game of futsal in Tampa Bay,” said Rowdies Youth Development Coordinator Samantha Ishee. The Rowdies hold themselves to high standards, and won’t settle for anything less.

It is evident that the Rowdies have a vision and want to meet a certain standard in this new adventure. They see the growth that futsal offers, leading them to make the decision to be a part of the Champions Cup Series. President of United Futsal, Rob Andrews, adds, “It is clear that the Rowdies have a vision and want to meet a certain standard in this new adventure. We are excited to see how the top talent from the Rowdies’ network stacks up against the world’s best futsal teams.”
